Report forwarded to J-2, USN&A. from 457th OIC Detachment, substantially as follows:

a. Alaska Railroad Special Agent, anchorage, informed JIC that Special Agent Nelson, Alaska railroad, at Balear, Alaska, had reported peculiar aerial object in that vicinity during afternoon 7 January 1958.

b. Investigation revealed Agent Nelson had received actual information from his wife.

c. Questioned by telephone on same date, Mrs. Nelson stated that she and four (4) or five (5) other women first noticed a peculiar object in the sky between 1430 and 1500 ho

Jan. 7 - at about 7:45 to 8:00 a.m.

I saw this peculiar long object in the sky while coming to work this morning. I was traveling along Arlington Boulevard between Seven Corners and Arlington Hall. I'll bet a lot of others saw it, too. It looked like a long white vapor trail and very clearly defined. The end which was moving was as sharp as a needle, and the rest was like a long icycle, but it was no cloud.
