The Air Force is in receipt of a report which indicates that you observed an object on 16 January 1965 which you could not identify. Although your report did not contain sufficient information to establish a definite identity of the object, the description you gave was similar to a jet aircraft with afterburner.

It is requested that the attached form be completed as fully as possible and returned to this office so that a complete evaluation can be made of the report.

Our office is in receipt of a letter from [redacted] reporting an observation she observed on 18 Jan 65 near Santa Barbara, California. The object is very similar to a jet aircraft with afterburner, however, there are some inconsistencies in this analysis since she has indicated that the object was extremely close

Dear Sirs

Would you be able to give us any information that would explain the object we observed in the sky on Jan 18th between 9:00 & 9:05 P.M.

We were at Lake Cechunna (Santa Barbara) Camp D-37 losing the west. When I first observed the object, it was light enough & thought it was water or a plane light falling. Then it made a slight wavering and instead of continuing what appeared to be direct falling it started coming in as if a plane would for standing to the camp site. Increasing from star size to what would be comparable to the size of a car head lamp. The color

From this side view we could see a tapered frame (composed) about a foot long. At this stage of turning it was rising and very rapidly returning skyward. It then made a slight wavering and the flame turned to a smoky, bleach, purple and disappeared, leaving nothing but a small black vapor or smoke like strip hanging beside the small range of hills, black the lake.

There were two witnesses and except for one of us feeling the light at Mr. Largent was back & ball, self, we agreed on colors and the actions very close and both felt it probably wasn't more than 2-3 minutes in our view.
