Personal Assistance Services 
Purpose 
Amended Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires the provision of personal 
assistance services (PAS) to employees and applicants with targeted disabilities. The term PAS 
refers to assistance with performing activities of daily living (ADLs) that an individual would 
typically perform if they did not have a disability, and that is not otherwise required as a 
reasonable accommodation, including, for example, assistance with removing and putting on 
clothing, eating, and using the restroom.

Employees Requesting Personal Assistance Services 
1. Contact the Office of Reasonable Accommodations and Accessibility (ORAA) by 
emailing ReasonableAccommodations@uwe.nsa.gov.  
2. ORAA will process the request (approve or deny). If ORAA approves the PAS request, 
ORAA will arrange a meeting between the employee and ORAS/PAS to determine the 
required services. 
3. ORAS will ensure a PAS provider is available for the employee.
