Dear Mr. [redacted]

AUG 11 1965

The object which you observed through a telescope on June 1963 could not be a satellite. The description of the object and its explosion resembles a balloon carrying an instrument package bursting.

Satellites appear much dimmer and are similar to stars in appearance. Visual features of satellites cannot be observed through a telescope.

Sincerely,
