President Johnson
1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Washington, D.C.

Monday night on the 11:00 P.M. news, it was reported that a flying saucer was spotted over a Portuguese village and another place that I cannot recall. It had "an intermittently luminous white light" like I had seen. The descript

Dear [redacted]

The President has asked that I reply to your recent letter regarding "flying saucers."

The investigation of unidentified flying objects reported in the skies over the United States is the responsibility of the Air Force. The name of this project is Blue Book.

In 18 years of investigating over 9000 reports of unidentified flying objects, the evidence has proved almost conclusively that reported aerial phenomena have been objects either created and sent aloft by man, generated by atmospheric conditions, or caused by celestial bodies of the residue of meteoric activity.
