1. SCHEPSIS: Second Mate aboard S. S. HAWAIIAN LOGGER reported sighting unidentified airborne object described as dark and cylindrical with short and reddish tail, similar to rocket in controlled flight; observed at 02…page 3
UNCLASSIFIED travelling at a very slow speed as compared to the speed of a meteor or falling star. It crossed the eastern sky on a downward track and disappeared at an altitude of about 4° behind a cloud bank in the NE. The object appeared to be above the cloud layer, travelling in an ESE direction. The weather was clear and the NE quadrant of sky was devoid of clouds. During the period of observation, the observer moved from the starboard bridge wing to the port wing, uncovered the Gyro Repeater, and was about to take a bearing when the object disappeared."
