Approximately two months ago I became interested in watching our Coho balloon passing over and have tried to continue to observe its flight whenever possible. At the same time I thought that another object was up there but moving very slow. After many miles of clear weather and other people who have also watched this object I will try to describe it to you.

On a clear rite it will appear just like a star West by North West from Harner, Ill. and about straight West of Miller Bay, Wisc. and at about 30°-35° above the horizon. It appears to wobble

At the same time I thought that another object was up there but moving very slow. On a clear nite it will appear just like a star - West by Northwest from Gurnee, Ill. and about straight West of Sister Bay, Wisc. and at about 30°- 35° above the horizon. It appears to

Although we have received reports from other observers of this object which you describe, we have had no official literature concerning it from the involved official government agencies. Therefore it is my guess as well as others that your object is probably the rocket carrier from one of the recent "Discoverer" shots. These rockets are all launched into polar orbits by the U.S. Air Force from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. Their chief function is to solve the problems of nose cone reentry and subsequent survival preparatory
