SUBJECT: Extract from ATIC Duty Officers Report

18 January 1960

The following are extracts from ATIC Duty Officer, Captain George T. Gregory's report dtd 16 Jan 60 for your information:

1735 - Received a UFO report from Col. Vitenac, 4A in typed form regarding a "lost Russian missile" that fell near the residence of the observer, a Mrs. L. I. New York. Transmitted from Col. Moore, OSI, Pentagon. (She threatens to take this to

Subject: Report of UFO From SAC Command Post

To: Major Friend, AFCIN-FE, Bldg 263

1. This is to inform you of UFO incident reported to the ATC Command Post at approximately 2330 hours, 15 January 1960. Standard UFO questionnaire could not be used because of the general and very sketchy nature of the report.

2. Details, are as follows:
a. Reported in an unusual manner: a three-way communication's network (FLASH INDICATIONS, SAC) consisting of SAC Command Post at Offutt (Col. Barmington, SDO; 15th Air Force Hqs, Merch Field California (Major Schmidt, SDO), and Command Post, Hts, USAF (Name no

AFB.

3. Underlined SDO, upon completion of the above information,
requested details as to direction of travel, approximate
speed, elevations, duration in sight, etc. None of
the agencies were able to give any further details.
Therefore, requested the SDO at the March Field Command
Post to initiate action for a written, detailed
report in compliance with AFR 200-2. We submitted to
AFB.

4. The tape played back through the tie-line circuit,
was very garbled, and consisted essentially of
a verbal report of the number of sightings of
this flaming object — dictated by a male voice
with a noticeabl
