Searchlights capable of projecting a beam in the manner described are often employed at carnivals, fairs, and other public gatherings.

Could it be that the light riding in the sky last evening from 9 till 10th, then the tall moving shaft of light, be experiments from Wright Field?

We are 45 miles up the Ohio river from Cincinnati.
