SUBJECT: Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) Sighting
13 April 1966

Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio 45433

The following report is forwarded in accordance with AFR 200-2, dated 20 July 1962:

a. Description of the Object:

(1) Resembled a large ball with three protrusions, or arms.

(2) Held at arm's length, the object would have been about the size of a basketball. Viewing the object from the road, the observer estimated the diame

excitement in viewing such an object he decided to turn around and go back to
Harrisville, Michigan, to locate a telephone to call his father. For approximately
one mile the UFO followed his vehicle and then disappeared. The observer
continued on for another mile and decided he would turn around and call his
father from Alpena. At approximately the same location of the original sighting
he saw the object again. At this time the object dropped straight down in a rapid
descent and the observer thought it would crash to the ground; however, at tree
top level it suddenly stopped and remained hover

(2) Weather was procured from Det 28, 26th Weather Squadron.
(a) 330° at 8 knots.
(b) 6,000 feet 330° at 15 knots.
(c) 10,000 feet 340° at 15 knots.
(d) 16,000 feet 320° at 20 knots.
(e) 20,000 feet 330° at 25 knots.
(f) 30,000 feet 320° at 30 knots.
(g) 50,000 feet 280° at 35 knots.

(3) 6,000 feet overcast.

(4) 15 miles plus.

(5) 10/10th cloud cover.

(6) Negative.

J. At the hour observer sighted the UFO, Wurtsmith Air Force Base was recovering a tanker and Harrisville is within the base flight pattern. This aircraft was launched to ac

mentioned in item i, above, might well have been the answer. In view of the fact that the boy saw what he thought to be three UFOs the previous week and after talking the situation over with his father decided it must have been aircraft or a figment of his imagination, however, because of the conversation with his father, and after looking at pictures of other reported sightings in Life Magazine, I personally feel he built into his imagination the object and its actions as reported.
