S. F. L. MOLLENKOPF, City Editor, Toledo Blade, stated in an interview on 19 April 1949 that the article in the newspaper on 10 April 1949 was the result of a phone call received in the newspaper office. No attempt was made by the newspaper to verify the statements. MOLLENKOPF concluded by stating that he would notify the 5th OSI District Office directly of any information coming to his attention relative to instant investigation or any future occurrence of this type.

1. This phase of the investigation was conducted by Special Agent HARRY FYVIN.

AT TOLEDO, OHIO

2. On 13 April 1949, the files of the Toledo Blade, daily newspaper of Toledo, Ohio, were reviewed. An article on page 1 of the 10 April 1949 edition, entitled: "Toledo Has Its Own Flying Discs," stated as follows:

~~of~~ , said he saw three flying discs for about 5 minutes at 11:30 a.m. yesterday as they passed over Herr Ed. and West Central Ave. at a speed of about 40 to 45 miles an hour.

1. Reference is made to telephone conversation of this date between Mr. Towles of this office and Mr. Merrill of 5th District, OSI.

2. It is requested your office initiate an investigation and obtain detailed signed statements of an alleged sighting of three (3) unidentified objects as witnessed by Mr. [redacted], Toledo, Ohio. This observation was reported to the State Highway Patrol, Toledo, Ohio, having been made at approximately 1130 A.M., 9 April 1949.

# Toledo Has Its Own Flying Discs

Henry Jordan, 15, of 5617 Whiteford Rd., said he saw three flying discs the about 2 minutes at 11:30 p.m. yesterday as they passed over fifty this year. Your General Agent at a speed of about 40 to 45 miles off home.

It said he was sure the round silver, saucer-like objects were not airplanes.

1. Investigation predicated upon receipt of a Routing and Record Sheet dated 12 April 1949 from the Technical Intelligence Division of Hq, Air Materiel Command. Request was made to obtain detailed signed statements from witnesses to an alleged sighting of aerial phenomena at Toledo, Ohio, on 9 April 1949.
