Dear [redacted]

This is in response to your recent letter in which you reported seeing an Unidentified Flying Object in the Lakeland, Florida area on August 6th.

You probably witnessed the passage of ECHO I which passed overhead at approximately 9:24 p.m. on that date, north of you between 31° and 43° above the horizon, moving northeast.

Thank you for reporting this to the Air Force. We hope the above explanation will be of interest to you.

Sincerely,

[redacted]

Dear Sirs,

I read that you wanted information on UFO sighting as soon as they were seen, so this is my story: On August 6 1930 P.M. I was camping out. As I was watching the stars I noticed one that seemed to stand out in brightness. As I watched it, it began moving from its SW position to the

North. It looked like it was about 12,000 ft. up, and was on a level course, and seem to be traveling at about 200 P.M.

“Q. Have no witness at all.
“Q. Can tell an airplane or jet when I see it.
“Q. Have read on U.F.O.’s and was interested.

You may believe me or you may tear this letter up. But I was only co-operating with the U.S.A.F.

Sincerely,
