UFO SIGHTING - DAYTON AREA, 6 March 1958

1. Majority of reports state object small, round, slightly red--and moving generally South to Southeast, and appeared to be between 5000 to 1000 feet. (See winds above for these altitudes at that time and place: S to SE,). Winds coincide with movement of object.

2. A. General time of sighting 6:30 to 6:50 A.M.

B. Checked with U.S. Weather Service, Mr. Halsey, Phone TW 8-4629. Stated winds substantially as above, and balloon released a little after 6:00 A.M. Due to low wind velocity rose high over Dayton area, but did not move out of the vicinity beca

1. Venus now very bright.

2. At 6:30 AM. - Approx 25° above horizon. (Low)

3. Sunrise - (upper limit i.c half of sun) - at 6:22 approximately
(Ref: Astro - NAUT. EPISOMONIS)

4. Daylight at 6:22, Venus fairly low on horizon, and in 9 cm direction of rising sun.

5. At 6:45 A.M. Sun approx 10° degrees above horizon - washing out Venus.

6. Therefore - up to approx 6:30 probably Venus if 20° or below horizon. (With trees, Blaze, etc. this would appear practically on horizon.

7. After 6:30 - if above 20° not Venus.

## Blamed on Venus

Daily News Staff Writer

Dayton today had had its own "unidentified flying object" - which a local scientist said was not flying and was not unidentified.

The object, variously described as green, yellow, red, white and blue, startled many Dayton area residents around 5:30 a. m. At least one person reported it was his second sighting.

1. Rec'd Curl from a M. ? (name not too clear), referred to this office by Provost Marshalls Office.
2. Asked if we knew of any other report of any strange object seen by him and a friend near the Yellow Springs Board, near Kanie (?) at approx. 7:15 yesterday (Friday morning. Told him that Kanie was bright color and that a balloon sent across the SE corner of Dayton around 7:00 o'clock.
3. Upon suggesting that he give me data to fill out a UFO questionnaire, stated that it was not necessary. The object was a balloon — merely wanted to see if he had
