Under the provisions of paragraph 15, AFR 200-2, dated 14 Sep 1959, subject: Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO), the following report is submitted:

a. Description of Object:
(1) Round
(2) Between softball and basketball
(3) Orange-red

(8) Heard sound similar to high-flying multi-engine aircraft. First noticed sound on sighting object and noticed sound stopped when object disappeared.

b. Description of Course of Object:

(6) Visible 3-5 seconds, traveling about 6 times faster than Echo I.

c. Manner of Observation:

(1) Naked eye.

d. Time and Date of Sighting:

(1) 2058, 15 Sep 1960.

(2) Night.

e. Location of Observer: 3323N 0735W.

f. Identifying Information on Observer:

(1) 56, 3922d CSG, Box APO 30, NY, NY., Chief, Civil Engineering Section, Engineering Division, reliable, has been an engineer entire life, worked for USAF since 1954, previously for Army Engineers.

(2) NA.

g. Weather and Winds:

(1) Clouds to west to about 45° above horizon,

j. An L-20 and T-33 aircraft were in the local area during the period of the observation. They were under the control of GCA, and remained in the traffic pattern..

k. Observer has been observing Echo I since 26 August 1960. Noted that the Echo I passed overhead at 22 minutes earlier each night. He noticed no UFO during his previous night watches. The speed of the UFO was estimated to be 6 times as fast as Echo I. The UFO was also observed by Mrs. [redacted] and a neighbor, Mrs. [redacted].

Description: Round, size of object between softball and basketball, orange-red, heard sound similar to high-flying multi-engine soft, first seen over left shoulder while looking south-20 deg. azimuth, last seen at about 45 deg elev at 200 deg. obj moved straight, viewed for 3-5 seconds
