Litburg, Germany 6 December 1953

I. Description of Incident
The co-pilot of a London-to-Frankfurt commercial flight sighted a fast moving object for a 4 to 5 second period. The unknown phenomenon crossed his flight path in front of him at a 90° angle and abruptly disappeared in a downward direction. Time of sighting was 1800. The object was bright at its core with a faint tail.

II. Discussion of Incident
This is a rather incomplete report. A check was made with the Frankfurt flight service center which revealed that no aircraft were in the vicinity. These factors en

Mr. co-pilot on British European Airways flight #492 from London to
Frankfort Rhein-Main on 6 Dec 52, reported to the Military Police customs officials
at the Rhein-Main commercial Terminal the sighting of an unidentified flying object.
Information furnished is as follows:
a. A written statement made by source is as follows: "Sighted streak
shaped object with bright lighted nose and a dim trail of light behind, crossing our
track at 90° to the right. Watched it for approximately 4-5 seconds when it abruptly
disappeared. There was no cloud at our height, .8 clear skys abo

OBJECT WAS STREAK SHAPED WITH BRIGHT LIGHT AT NOSE AND HAD TRAIL OF DIM LIGHTS BEHIND. OBJECT CROSSED FLIGHT TRACK AT 98 DEGREES TO THE RIGHT. OBSERVED IT FOR APPROX 4 TO 5 SECONDS, WHEREUPON OBJECT DISAPPEARED ABRUPTLY. HAD CALLED ATTENTION OF PILOT BUT THE OBJECT DISAPPEARED BEFORE HE WAS ABLE TO SEE IT.
