Dear Sir:

My purpose in writing is to report an unidentified flying object observed in Central California on the evening of August 29, 1964.

My Dad, an aeronautical engineer, [redacted], an engineering student going to Cornell University, and I were hiking down from Mt. Whitney. The time was 10:30 p.m. We were at an elevation of 13,000 feet when we sighted an unusual object.

The object appeared to be a jet airplane doing maneuvers but it's speed and maneuvers were too great. This object was in the east at an elevation of about 20°. It seemed larger t

We got down to our camp at 12,000 feet at 11:30 p.m. and still observed the object. We noticed two more of these objects, one to each side of the first one. They seemed to be at least twice the distance away as the first object. They had the same motions as the first one. We went to bed at 12:00 p.m. and we still observed these objects.

Will you please tell me what we saw. If you need more information, I will be glad to send it to you.

Sincerely yours,
