From 0410Z to 0510Z on 10 August 1956, a dentist in Washington DC (asking name be withheld), his wife, and sister-in-law observed an unidentified object that alternated between circular, cigar, and pinpoint of light shapes. Reddish to bright amber color. Moved in erratic pendulum east-west, then up and down. Light varied in intensity as object increased altitude. A/1C Richard S. Kolcz independently observed the object at approximately 0410Z while standing outside at Fort Meyer, VA. AWS Andrews AFB CPS-9 radar scan and Washington ARTCC radar scan were negative. Observer had private pilot certificate.
