Narrative

On 3 August 1956 at 0430Z, an observer at Selfridge AFB, Michigan saw a single round basketball-sized dim yellow object at 60 degrees elevation, 270 degrees azimuth, while observing weather. Object moved rapidly westward and was still being observed at the time of the report. Possible explanations cited by Senior Director: position of planet Mars combined with temperature inversion, or lighted weather balloons. Clear skies.
