AFXOI FLYOBRPT 8-52 — 1952-08-15 — Selfridge Air Force Base, Michigan (east side near Lake St.
Narrative
On 15 August 1952 at 0344Z, A/2C Clyde Vierra and A/2C Franklin D. Steinberg, standing at the east side of Selfridge AFB, Michigan near Lake St. Clair, observed a lavender-colored light approximately the size of the North Star appear west of their position approximately 20 degrees above the horizon, traveling northeast. The light ascended in a zigzag pattern. Both airmen estimated approximately two miles distance but conceded altitude made estimation difficult. The light traveled to a position over the JET BAR on Highway M-29 in less than two minutes, hung motionless briefly, then headed east and disappeared beyond the horizon. No trail or sound. Total observation two minutes.
