Narrative

At 0815Z on or about 21 April 1955, a housewife and GOC Day Captain at Van Nuys, California observed a diamond-shaped red flashing light that swayed back and forth then shot away to the northwest, over eight minutes. The observer reported having sighted the same object three or four times in the past week, always immediately following a scheduled airliner overhead. Flight 1-C investigation concluded the sighting was aircraft - a rotating red beacon installed on the tail structure of a DC-6.
