AISOC 0036 — 1956-09-30 — Whitewater, Wisconsin
Narrative
On 30 September 1956 at 2000Z near Whitewater, Wisconsin, Mrs. Louise Buening observed at least sixty round, silvery, cellophane-like objects moving in a southwesterly direction. Some objects moved slowly while others appeared stationary. The objects disappeared by fading from sight. Sub-investigation by Flt 2-A revealed that University of Minnesota released two 40-ft Mylar balloons with 10-pound packages and three orange paper parachutes; Mylar materials appear as cellophane and could be the cluster of metallic objects observed. One balloon was recovered in west central Illinois.
