1956-01-30 — North Truro, Massachusetts area (762D ACW Sq)
Narrative
On approximately 30 January 1956, a Ground Observer Corps S/Sgt at Detachment 4, 4673D GOC reported a large object that changed from red to white, twice the size of a 100-foot-circumference water tower. The object reportedly paced a contrail at flat-plane elevation moving west to northeast before disappearing into cloud cover; observation lasted 2.5 minutes. AISOP comments noted contradictory statements (contrails 15,000 feet below object but ceiling at 20,000 feet) and aircraft activity in the area; the duration suggested possibly an aircraft-generated sighting.
