5UFOB-1-55 — 1955-10-17 — Approximately 20 miles west of Cheyenne, Wyoming
Narrative
On 17 October 1955 at approximately 2014 hours, two deer hunters approximately 20 miles west of Cheyenne, Wyoming heard a noise similar to an aircraft landing that drowned out a commercial airliner overhead. They observed a shadow passing overhead at very low altitude (50-60 feet above), which disappeared over a small ridge. The source believed the object struck the ground but heard no impact other than the noise. He and his companion sought shelter in a ravine. They searched the area without artificial light, with negative results. Later, driving to Cheyenne, source and companion shot at a deer with a spotlight; they were both certain the animal was felled, but the deer arose and approached their vehicle. Both fled the scene and could find no sign of the deer or blood the next morning. CAA personnel reported a similar sighting 45 minutes earlier from the same area. Investigated by S/Sgt R.D. DeRudder.
