Narrative

On 30 June 1956 at 0600Z, multiple F-86D pilots from the 25th ADIV at McChord AFB, Washington (Capt B.A. Anderson over Narrows Bridge, Lt Steckerl over McChord) plus civilian observers from Portland Oregon to the Canadian border reported a round object resembling a sky rocket, blue in front and yellow at the rear, arcing east-to-west, then horizontally, then suddenly going out of sight in 3 seconds. A second report described a brilliant white mass like a shell explosion appearing instantaneously. Headquarters concluded the sighting was definitely caused by a particularly bright meteor; a local observatory and astronomer were consulted for confirmation.
