Narrative

At 0515Z on 23 May 1956, the pilot and co-pilot of a T-33 aircraft 30 nautical miles NW of Monroe, Louisiana, observed a cross-shaped brilliantly lighted object similar to or larger than a C-47. Object appeared to grow larger then diminish as aircraft approached and withdrew. Investigation by Flight 2-D concluded sighting was caused by a radiosonde balloon launched by US Weather Observatory at Shreveport, Louisiana at 220000Z 22 May 1956. The MDH balloon flights had been checked with negative results.
