Narrative

At 2054Z 14 August 1955, civilian laying on back facing sky observed an orange spherical object directly overhead. Object 5 to 10 degrees off true north, then disappeared at 45 to 50 degrees from horizon. Traveled a straight path at even speed; object just disappeared. Sighted 5-12 seconds. Commercial aircraft in landing pattern and one F-89D at high altitude noted. Possibly F-86D aircraft.
