Narrative

At 0830Z on 30 January 1956, observers near Tea, South Dakota (including a gas station manager and a GOC observer) sighted a round silver object resembling a weather balloon at 45 degrees elevation. Object was still in sight at 0930Z when the report was submitted - duration approximately one hour. No discernible flight path or maneuvers. Weather clear and cold. The investigating Senior Director concluded the object was a weather balloon, probably of the radiosonde type, and HQ concurred.
