Narrative

On 15 March 1956 at night, TWA pilots in flight near Harrisburg PA and over varied points (Martin 404 TWA 121 at 8000 ft over LaGuardia heading to Harrisburg; Connie TWA 96 at 11000 ft heading to Chicago) along with a ground observer in Harrisburg reported a brilliant orange-red glowing object with a trail four to five times its length, traveling level south to north. ATIC reviewers later requested further investigation, noting the object size of a quarter with tail size of a transport aircraft, and queried whether observers had seen meteors before. AISOP concluded it was probably a meteor based on duration, description, and being seen over varied points.
