1960-12-01 — Valley City Airport, North Dakota

On approximately 1 December 1960 at 0720Z, Valley City, ND police officers observed a round red-to-orange object near Valley City Airport at about 1,000 feet altitude, moving rapidly up and down and side to side, also hovering. Upon approach of the police car, the object rapidly disappeared to the west. The officers reported that radio contact with both Valley City and Jamestown radio stations was lost when they approached the object, an event previously occurring only during severe weather; all contacts were regained when the object left. The sighting lasted approximately 15 minutes. Detachment One, 4672nd GOS at Fargo ND filed the report.
