Narrative

On 11 March 1955 at 0112Z (night), Captain Empire of Trans Canada Airlines flight 428 (DC-3) at 7,000 ft heading 110 magnetic observed an extremely bright flash of light (parachute flare-like) for 3-4 seconds slightly below the left wing. Ground observer Hazel Smart at Mattawamkeag, Maine (HXGA 393) saw red, yellow and green light with tail disappearing into horizon as if falling at the same time. Super Duper 22 (F-89N) diverted from Presque Isle AFB could not locate or sight any unusual object. Report prepared by 1st Lt. Joseph H. Byrne, 765th AC&W Sq Charleston, Maine. Concluded as possibly astronomical (meteorite).
