AF Form 112 (82nd Fighter Group) — 1956-09-17 — New Castle, Delaware
Narrative
At 2330Z on 17 September 1956, three civilians in New Castle, Delaware separately observed an unidentified flying object from different locations. The three observers disagreed on shape (cigar-shape, jagged-edged star, or circular with points) and size (half dollar to grapefruit) but agreed it was very bright silver/white, single object. Reported observing the object at 30-degree elevation to the NNE. One observer used a low-powered barrel-type telescope, others used naked eye. Object's behavior varied by witness: ten minutes stationary then darting away suddenly, jerking motion like a kite, teetering motion. All agreed object disappeared suddenly in a great burst of speed. Three to thirteen minutes total. Electrical storm in area with overcast sky.
