Narrative
On 18 August 1956 at 0500Z near Longview, Washington, TSgt Vern Cain (4778th GOC Det 3, Portland OR) observed a single round orange object, smaller than a dime, moving up and down and sideways but mostly upward while looking at a mountain at 25 degree elevation. Observation by ground-to-air visual with binoculars. Clear conditions. At 0540Z an aircraft in the area approached from the south, circled the object twice, then proceeded back south-bound. Aircraft was on Amber One southbound traffic; no info from the aircraft as to seeing the object.
