Narrative

On 18 September 1955 at 0420Z near Blue Mound, Illinois, a civilian gas station attendant on a high hill observed a single object via ground visual with glass with coated lens for ~20 minutes. The observer initially thought he was sighting an aircraft. An Ozark Airlines flight was departing Decatur at the time. Reporting officer concluded sighting could very possibly have been a balloon.
