Narrative

On 27 October 1955 (date approximate from 272311Z OCT), Lt Gifford USN at the Naval Shipyard, Long Beach, California, observed a single round and oblong bright orange object during daylight (0322Z). Object moved northeast at elevation 15,000 to 20,000 feet, did approximately 270-degree right turn, rolled out on heading of north, faded in 1 second. Observed for 3 seconds. Weather VFR. Reported by 9587th Air Res Flying Center.
