Narrative
Between 0402Z and 0403Z on 3 October 1954, eight military and civilian persons including 1st Lt. Joseph N. Copeland (HQ Sqdn, 340th Air Base Group, Sedalia AFB) ground-visually sighted two unidentified objects flying singly and separately one hour apart over Warrensburg, Missouri. First sighting at 0402Z showed an oblong cylindrical dull red object with three orange stripes. Second sighting at 0403Z showed a brighter orange dime-sized object. Both objects moved erratically left to right then disappeared in the sky. Each sighting was 5 seconds. Conditions were night with clouds and lightning. Moby Dick balloon launches were noted at Sedalia AFB on that date.
