AISS-UFOB-206-55 — 1955-07-09 — Augusta, Maine (Founder GCI; aircraft over Andrews AFB area)
Narrative
At 0100Z on 9 July 1955, an extremely large roughly spherical greenish-blue object was observed visually from the ground, from the air by an F-86 pilot at 15,000 ft over Andrews AFB, by ground electronic means (Founder GCI), and from picket vessel Toronto Charlie. The object had a green tail that became a vapor trail upon hitting atmosphere, illuminated the sky, and traveled south to north very high for approximately one minute. A humming sound was reported. The NCO at Founder GCI believed the object to be a meteorite though it was not seen to hit ground; AISOP concluded probably astronomical (meteorite).
