1955-09-05 — Butler, Missouri (3816N 94297W)
Narrative
At 0623Z on 5 September 1955 over Butler, Missouri, a CAA Airways Operations Specialist taking a weather observation reported an object of indeterminate shape with a slight sweep-back leading edge, finger-length, silver to white in color, with one faint light and an apparent exhaust trail. The object traveled straight and level on a heading of southwest at azimuth 240, then veered south and disappeared in 25 to 30 seconds. GCI sites Picnic and Mastiff alerted and reported one B-47 in the area at the time of sighting twenty miles west of Butler heading NE 50 degrees at 34,000 ft; Kansas City ARTC reported one B-47 eastbound at 34-39,000 ft. The same observer had reported a UFOB the previous night with different shape and number of lights.
