Narrative

On 16 October 1956 at 1859 PST, a 1/Lt of the 25th Infantry Division and his wife observed a cigar-shaped object while driving west on US Highway 40, originally 30 miles northeast of Fernley, Nevada. The object had varying red, bluish, grey, and golden colors with a distinct exhaust approximately half its length. It appeared to hover for most of the observation period before traveling in level flight at approximately 5,000-7,000 feet, then disappeared at high speed in 7-10 seconds. Observed with 7x50 binoculars for 40-45 minutes on an extremely clear night.
