Narrative

While on watch at a GOC post in England, Arkansas at 1252Z on 23 July 1956, the observer reported an object that appeared flat at times then diamond-shaped, larger than a star, with a ring around it and a red light on its underside. The object moved due south at 70-100 kph at high altitude and left a trail of white smoke six times. Observation duration was 1 hour 30 minutes using binoculars. A small balloon released at 0830 CST was reported by the Weather Bureau as not possibly being the object.
