Narrative

On 27 January 1953 at about 2100 CST, Iowa State Highway Patrolmen Lutter and Nicholson observed a red and white ball of light hovering west of Davenport, Iowa. The object changed color from white to orange to red to white repeatedly, glowing brighter red as it increased in speed. The patrolmen pursued westward to Wilton Junction; the object stayed stationary for a time before accelerating away faster than their 60-65 MPH vehicle. It was estimated at 100 MPH initially and finally reached inestimable speeds before disappearing over the horizon. The object made no sound and left no exhaust or trail.
