Narrative
On 20 May 1955 at 2215 EST, CDR William H. Hilands, USN, a Naval aviator with 20 years experience, observed an intermittent bright light from the ground three miles northwest of Malvern, Pennsylvania. Object approached from the southwest, made a slight turn and disappeared in a north-northeast direction. Bright light appeared every twenty degrees of arc with no lights between points, lasting two to five seconds each time. Object was at an altitude of approximately 7,000 to 10,000 ft. Weather was clear with stars visible. Duration of observation: thirty seconds to a minute and a half.
