Narrative
On 12 July 1955 at 0400Z, observers in a B-17 aircraft at 10,000 ft over Southern California, plus GOC observers at Bakersfield, sighted a bright red object resembling a comet with tail moving NW to SW in a straight line for two minutes. The object exploded leaving a luminous smoke trail. Multiple observers reported the same time and location. The reporting officer concluded the sighting was probably a meteorite, though the long duration did not fully substantiate that theory.
