Narrative
On 23 September 1954 from 0722Z to 0723Z, an unidentified radar target was observed on the AN/FPS-10 radar at the 663rd AC&W Squadron in Lake City, Tennessee. The target was larger than conventional aircraft targets, located at range 93 miles, azimuth 280 deg. Radar showed no recent maintenance difficulties; AFC circuit was operating properly. Radar scan rate was 4 sweeps per minute at 3,000 mc frequency. Weather was clear with 15 miles visibility. No aircraft were in the area. The target vanished from the scope after one full minute.
