At 0757 hours on 17 December 1952, observers on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, New York saw a light resembling a jet exhaust, greenish-blue with an orange-red trail, moving westward at very high speed. It appeared to traverse 30 degrees of arc in approximately two seconds. High cirrus clouds estimated at over 20,000 feet were present.
