Narrative

On 11 August 1956 at dusk over the southeast part of Bakersfield, California, a 21-year-old civilian observer reported a round grapefruit-shaped object that was red, white, and yellow at an estimated 25,000 feet altitude. The object remained stationary directly over SE Bakersfield for over 4.5 hours through dusk and night. Observed ground visual under clear night skies with stars and thin cirrus at 20,000 ft. Senior Director assessed it as a star blinking through cirrus clouds.
