Narrative

On 9 January 1955 at 0250Z, Capt. William L. Janssen, flying a T-33 (5-18915) at 12,000 feet on a 165-degree course, observed a round greenish object the size of a baseball with a long trail 26 miles north of Tyndall AFB, Florida. Object was at 40 degrees above horizon dead ahead, dove 10 degrees from vertical to the west, faded at horizon, observed 3-4 seconds. Simultaneously A/2C Douglas R. Kilgore observed a similar round blue-red object resembling a shooting star from outside the Tyndall AFB Wing Provost Marshal's office. Also reported by local civilian and Air Evac 778. Egin AFB reported no range activity.
