Narrative

On 12 July 1955 at 2120Z, a civilian housewife and student in Newark Valley, New York observed a round-circular object approximately 20 feet in diameter, clear plastic in color, similar to a cow's head with horns. GOC reported the object in PN 4814 at 2120Z; verified by Director at GOC at 2315Z in same area. Two fighters scrambled from Stewart Air Base at 2344Z and had a tally-ho at 2347Z. Object was identified as a double balloon - unusual type, white cylindrical, moving NW to SE at about 50 knots, between 15-30 ft long and 5-6 ft wide. Climbing continuously.
