On 17 May 1956 at 0015 PDST (0715Z), a civilian observer at Palm Desert, California reported a single round yellow object the size of a pea at arm's length on level flight heading west, at 45-50 degree elevation. The object blanked out after two seconds of observation. Lt Thomas D. Lucas concluded possible landing wing or tail light of aircraft.
