751st OPS 5-2 047/048 — 1955-01-12 — Salona Beach (Solana Beach), California (Highway 101 area)
Narrative
On 12 January 1955 at 0145Z (dusk), Mr. Massie, aircraft electrical engineer, on Highway 101 near Salona Beach (Solana Beach), California, observed a basketball-sized ball-shaped light-blue object that split into two objects flying side by side. Object looked like a magnesium flare. Observed for 28.5 minutes from overhead at 045 degree heading until disappearing into a cloud. Separate report from another observer (C97/C97 case) at the same time: pea-sized blue and white light, accidental discovery at 220 degree (45 deg elev), straight flight, light faded after 5 seconds. Jet aircraft overhead going north and airliner going south both on Airway Amber One. Operations officer at MMR reported a person named Massie had previously mentioned seeing a flying saucer stationary on Salona Beach several weeks prior; Massie had a camera but was too excited to photograph. Reported by 751st ACW Sqdn, Mt Laguna CA.
