Narrative

On 23 January 1953, 1st Lt. E.R. White, pilot of a USAF C-47 (Aircraft #6473) flying from Frankfurt/Rhein-Main to Tempelhof in Berlin at 3,000 feet, observed a YAK-9 fighter aircraft on a NW course over Belzig in Soviet Zone Germany. The YAK-9 passed approximately half a mile in front of the C-47, then made a left turn, reducing speed and increasing altitude to 3,000 feet, positioning itself approximately 500 yards on the starboard rear of the C-47. The aircraft was not seen again after passing out of the pilot's line of sight at approximately 1117Z.
